Schools Celebrate National School Choice Week

January 28, 2019

Every year in January, National School Choice Week promotes effective education options for children. NSCW recognizes all K-12 school options, including traditional public schools, public charter schools, homeschooling, private schools and virtual schools. According to the NSCW website over 20,000 schools participated in 2018 making this week the world’s largest annual celebration of opportunity in education. This year NSCW was held January 20-26 and we had several schools that participated in the celebration.

American Montessori Academy was really engaged with families, especially on social media. They started the week before with a list of activities that were going to happen during the week through a Facebook event. Their activities included a poster that each classroom got to decorate, passing out packs of Extra gum with thank-you notes to parents, pictures of students and teachers/staff with NSCW signs, a video of parents saying why they love AMA, and a video of students dancing to the NSCW dance.

NexTech High School of Grand Rapids had a group of students and staff that joined MAPSA in Lansing at the State Capitol to share with legislators why they love having a choice on attending a school that best suits their needs. They also had several students share why they love NexTech on their Instagram account.

Other schools shared the NSCW logo on their social media accounts and thanked parents for choosing their school!

Dates for next year have already been announced, Jan. 26-Feb. 1, 2020. Mark your calendars and check out the NSCW website for free printable activities, signs, banners and social media graphics. #NSCW2020
