Carlie Lockwood, VP of Human Resources

Carlie Lockwood earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University with a major in Marketing, graduating in 1996.  She joined Smart Schools Management as Human Resources Manager in 1998. In her current assignment as Vice President of Human Resources for MEP Services, Mrs. Lockwood coordinates all of the personnel, benefit, and other compensation issues for each school. She works with the school leaders and staff to develop annual staffing plans for each school, coordinates hiring, discipline, and works closely with authorizers and auditors.

Sheryl K. Sheryl Kauppi, Human Resources/ Benefits Director

Sheryl Kauppi joined MEP Services in May 2005. As the Benefits Director, Sheryl manages the benefits department and oversees all plan administration. She works closely with the Vice President of Human Resources to assist staff, school leaders, and school boards to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation, such as the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, ADA, and FMLA.  Sheryl also takes the lead in implementing procedures for school leadership to stay compliant with regulations in special circumstances, such as Criminal History Background Checks for school employees.   She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration from Central Michigan University, and came to MEP Services with an extensive background in human resource-related customer service and office management.

Kristi Karber, Human Resources Manager

Kristi Karber joined MEP Services in 2009. As a Human Resources Manager, Kristi works closely with the academies and our team of Human Resource Specialists to provide exceptional levels of service to our schools.  She earned her degree from Central Michigan University and has a strong background in customer service and employee supervision and training.

Michelle Soltz joined  MEP Services in 2012. As Payroll Manager, Michelle is responsible for managing the payroll department, as well as ensuring accuracy and compliance in areas of payroll and staff compensation. This includes staff and employee training, database and compliance maintenance, and payroll invoicing and budgeting. In addition, Michelle works hard to ensure that all stakeholders including HR, Accounting, School Administrators, and Boards have all of the necessary payroll and compensation information. Michelle graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business, and has been in the payroll profession for over 30 years. Prior to joining MEP Services, Michelle owned and operated her own payroll company. There she gained extensive payroll preparation and processing experience including a thorough understanding of taxation, garnishment calculation, direct deposit and management skills.

Lindsay Campeau, Human Resources Specialist

Lindsay Campeau joined MEP Services in February 2013.  In her position as Human Resources Specialist, Lindsay works closely with school leaders, office staff, and other faculty to assist with Human Resource needs such as; payroll, compliance, policies/procedures, and any other employee needs.  Lindsay earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from Northwood University, and is currently working on a master’s degree at DeVos Graduate School.  Lindsay came to MEP Services with previous experience in payroll and customer service.

Ellen CramerHuman Resource Compliance and Payroll Specialist joined MEP Services in February 2015. Ellen has worked with MEP Services in various capacities since 2007. Before she worked in Human Resources, she was a Director at one of our Daycare Centers. Ellen has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science at Washtenaw Community College.   She comes to us with 17 years experience as a Program Director at Child Care Centers where her tasks included scheduling, billing, payables, grant reporting, supervising, customer service, marketing, and office management. She also has 15 years experience as a preschool teacher. As a Human Resources Compliance and Payroll Specialist, Ellen will provide onboarding of new employees while making sure that compliance standards are in place as well as processing payroll semi-monthly for her schools.

Varsha Dalian, Senior Human Resources  Specialist

Varsha Dalian joined MEP Services in 2009 as a Human Resources Specialist. In this role, Varsha serves as a day-to-day contact for employees and office personnel at the schools she works with, and also processes payrolls. She is a graduate of Rutgers University, and received her master’s in Management Science from the Stevens Institute of Technology.  Before joining MEP Services, Varsha was a Systems Analyst, and also held positions in the areas of Human Resources, Compliance, and Bookkeeping.

Kelly Fox joined MEP Services in March of 2011.  As a Compliance Specialist, she works closely with the Human Resource Specialists to ensure compliance in our schools in every aspect of Human Resources.  Kelly earned her associate’s degree from Lansing Community College, and came to MEP Services with over 23 years of experience in human resources that includes payroll, accounts receivable, and office management.

Susie Garbacz, Senior Human Resources Specialist

Susie Garbacz joined MEP Services in 2006 to assist the Director of Human Resources as the special projects coordinator, and in 2008 moved into her current position as Senior Human Resources Specialist. Susie serves as a close contact for schools and their employees, and uses her strict attention to detail and excellent personal skills to fill a broad range of day-to day human resources needs.  Susie came to MEP Services with 20 years of customer service experience, including in Human Resources.

Sandy Hayes, Human Resources Payroll and Compliance Coordinator Sandy Hayes, HR Specialist

Sandy Hayes joined MEP Services in October of 2013.  In her position as Human Resources Specialist she works closely with school leaders, office staff, and other faculty to assist with Human Resource needs such as; payroll, compliance, policies/procedures, and any other employee needs. Sandy earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, and came to MEP services with ten years of experience in accounting and payroll, as well as prior experience in onboarding, compensation, employee relations, and training.

Alisha Horn, HR Specialist Alisha Sykes, HR Specialist

Alisha Sykes joined MEP Services in the spring of 2013. As a Human Resources Specialist Alisha strives to build strong relationships with schools, teachers, and families. She works closely with school leaders and other school staff on all of their human resources needs, including payroll, hiring, policies/procedures and more. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Resources Management from Oakland University, and came to MEP with experience in many areas of Human Resources, including payroll, benefit administration and hiring.

Donna Jones, Human Resources Assistant/Recruitment Specialist

Donna Jones joined MEP Services in 2008 as a Human Resources Specialist.  In 2012 she moved into her current position as Recruitment Specialist, where she enjoys working to recruit qualified individuals to become a part of the MEP Services team.  Donna earned her degree in Merchandising Management from Michigan State University, and came to MEP Services with years of experience in customer relations, sales, and service.

Elise Marra joined MEP Services in August 2013 as Human Resources Receptionist/Benefits Administrative Assistant.  In her current position as Benefits Coordinator, she provides support to our schools and staff by providing assistance with employee benefits.  Elise earned her bachelor’s in health communications from Grand Valley State University, and came to MEP Services with a background in administrative support.

Lauren Parsley, Benefits Coordinator

Lauren Parsley joined MEP services in the spring of 2013. As Benefits Coordinator, Lauren provides support to our schools and staff by providing assistance with employee benefits.  She is a graduate of Western Michigan University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration. Prior to joining MEP Services she worked as a Benefits Administrator for a manufacturing company.

Penni Sakowski, HR Receptionist/Benefits Coordinator

Penni Sakowski joined MEP Services in 2013 as a Payroll Specialist. She worked for 24 years in area schools, and held various positions such as Business Manager and Assistant to the School President.  Penni came to MEP Services with a strong background in administrative support, alumni relations, payroll, and customer service.

Michele Samoylov, Human Resources Assistant, Recruitment and Substitute Specialist

Michele Samoylov joined MEP Services in 2010 as a Human Resource Assistant. In this role, Michele specializes in the AESOP substitute placement program, and also assists with employee recruitment. Michele came to MEP Services with 20 years of customer service experience, and enjoys working with candidates as they look to become part of the MEP Services team.

Diane Sauline, Onboarding Specialist

Diane Sauline joined MEP Services in March of 2011 as an Human Resource Assistant. She brings over 20 years of experience in the administrative field, where she provided executive assistance and customer service.  Before joining MEP Services, she worked for the City of Novi Planning and Community Development Department, and the White Lake Township Board of Trustees.

Heather Sherrer joined MEP Services in December 2016 as a Human Resource Specialist.  In this role she works closely with school leaders, teachers and other staff to assist with all areas of their Human Resource needs including payroll, compliance, policies/procedures, and more. Heather earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Defiance College and a master’s in human resource management and organizational development from Eastern Michigan University. In addition to human resources Heather also has experience working as a teacher.

Sandi Taylor joined MEP Services in September 2017 as a Payroll Specialist. She has extensive payroll and customer service experience from her time as a business owner and from her work with several local companies.

Aimee Zak, Human Resource Development Coordinator Aimee Zak, HR Compliance Manager

Aimee Zak joined MEP Services in August 2013. As HR Compliance Manager, Aimee maintains compliance in all areas of Human Resources through policy development, tracking, and implementation. She also develops Human Resource training programs/tools, tracks stakeholder and academy leadership and communication of department accomplishments, and manages data through online storage systems. Aimee earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Phoenix, and came to CS Partners with over 15 years of experience working in administration, management, marketing, and customer service on local and regional levels.

Amy Zastrow, Human Resources Manager

Amy Zastrow joined MEP Services in 2012. As a Human Resources Manager, Amy uses her passion for Human Resources and education to oversee a broad spectrum of Human Resource services for the schools she works with. Amy graduated from Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Business, and from Eastern Michigan University with a Master of Science in Human Resources and Organizational Development. In 2012, she obtained her Professional in Human Resources certification. Amy came to MEP Services with experience in many areas of Human Resources, which include employee relations, development, training, evaluation, recruitment, and retention. She also brought with her a knowledge of benefits and payroll administration, as well as experience handling legal and compliance issues.
